I am interested in organizing a couple of endurance swims this summer on Fairy Lake.
*One swim will be from the beach on Golden Pheasant Drive on Fairy Lake to Grandview Resort and back. This swim would be 2.5 K.M. in length.
* The second swim will be more ambitious and it is for experienced long distance open water swimmers. The swim will start at the beach next to Huntsville High School on Brunel Road. The swim will be a tour of the islands of Fairy Lake. We will swim to Antler Isand and then to The Twin Sisters, from there we would swim to One Tree Island.
From one tree island we will swim 200 meters to the local beach on Golden Pheasant Drive for lunch.
After lunch we will swim back to the start at the beach close to Huntsville High School. This swim is only for more experienced swimmers and the length of the swim is between 5.5 to 6 K.M.
* All swimmers will have to have a canoe or a kayak spot them.

This is a fabulous opportunity develop and practice your open water skill.

Please let me know if you are interested.
I am thinking of both swims taking place in July.

Hi everyone,

An update on the snowshoe races at the Muskoka Loppet on Jan 24th.

There are now three races. The course is the Lookout Trail (now known as Hardwood Hill Trail), which is a 3km loop. We will have:
3km individual
9km individual
9km relay

The relay is for two or three person teams. The rule is that each team can only use one pair of snowshoes. That should make for a fun race.

For the draw prizes: two pair of GV cat Trail running snowshoes ($180 pr), gaiters, poles, gift certificates, and lots more.

For place prizes : 3km- $25 gift certificates from Running Free (1st place male, 1st place female)
9km individual -$50 gift cert. from Running Free (1st male, 1st female)
9km relay - working on it.

So I encourage you to put together a team or race as an individual. Let me know if you need snowshoes. I have one pair that someone can borrow. Also, AO and Sharpley's rent them.

If you aren't able to race, I do need some volunteers. Call me at 789-9716 or email -
jumanji96@hotmail.com

regards,
Neil

I am snowshoeing at the Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve on the afternoon of Wednesday 30th. Would anyone like to join me? Most of the trails that we will be on have been packed by other snowshoers. Some of it will be 'virgin snow', but probably not very deep. I would like to be out there by 1:00pm.

This will be a hike, not a run. We will 'shoe' for a couple of hours at an easy pace.

It is beautiful out there. You will love it.

The snowshoe races now have two key sponsors, Algonquin Outfitters and GV Snowshoes. They are giving us the draw prizes, which are open for every finisher. We now have two pair of the GV Cat Trail snowshoes, their excellent running snowshoe. They will be the top draw prizes.

Check them out at www.gvsnowshoes.com

Let's see you out there. Try a new sport. You will love it.

Come on out to the Muskoka Loppet Snowshoe Race on Sunday January 24th. There will be 3km and 9km races, using the Lookout Trail. We have a heated building to use where we can keep warm pre and post race. You won't be cold during the race! This is a really good course that will give you a great workout. Go at your own pace and have some fun. Snowshoes available for rent from Arrowhead Park. Sign up at www.arrowheadnordic.ca

Oh, and your race entry includes a hot lunch!

Hey Lia,

Simcoe Shores looks like a fun relay.....if you need a team member I might be interested. I would love to support either Muskoka Hospice OR the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. I'm a teacher so August long race works for me.

Hi Everyone,

It looks like there is considerable interest in HEAT. Here is an opportunity for HEAT-friendly (hot?) people to help get a great local endurance event started ... our first annual trail run at Limberlost Forest Reserve. We have a date selected (July 17), a 12.5km loop laid out, and funds to get started. Neil Jefferson and Dave Gibson have committed to be co-directors and we need a few individuals who are able to meet for an hour every few weeks for beer and planning. Neil has gotten a good start already. E-mail training@vianet.ca if you want more info and, especially if you can help with sponsorship, marketing, registration, volunteer management, start/finish managememnt, etc..

Thanks,

Dave Gibson
